Belgian bands are making headlines. But who are the people who work behind the scenes to make these artists' dreams come true?

Focus on Gordon A. Edwards: An American Investor and Producer Living in Brussels

Gordon A. Edwards has made a lasting impact on the music and entertainment industries. As one of the owners of Dreamcast Factory, he won two Prix d’Or awards in France for music videos and produced Robert Palmer’s video for "Some Guys Have All the Luck," along with numerous videos for French and Belgian artists.

He also co-owned S.I.S Radio, one of the first pirate radio stations in Belgium, which was eventually acquired by a major broadcasting company. Additionally, Gordon was the owner of Traffic Productions, a video and advertising production company, and Model Team, one of the largest modeling agencies in Belgium. Under the management of Dominique Fache, Model Team evolved into Dominique Models, which became Belgium’s largest modeling agency.

He later founded Sounds of the Future, which managed his music ventures. It was during this time that he discovered Viktor Lazlo, a successful model from Model Team. After Viktor expressed her desire to transition into singing, Gordon introduced her to Lou Deprijck, who became her producer. Gordon's career extended beyond music; he also developed and owned real estate, constantly driven by his passion for business and adventure.

After hearing his friend Nathalie Gabay sing a duet with the famous Belgian artist Plastic Bertrand, known for his global hit "Ça plane pour moi," Gordon proposed producing a single for Nathalie. He collaborated with renowned English songwriter Peter Godwin, who had written songs for David Bowie’s Let’s Dance album. Peter wrote "My Love Won’t Let You Down" specifically for Nathalie, which was later translated into French as "Mon Cœur qui Craque." The song became a chart-topping success in Belgium, Holland, and Italy.

While working as Nathalie’s producer and manager, Gordon met the group Indeep, who were touring with their worldwide No. 1 hit Last Night a DJ Saved My Life. During this time, he connected with Reggie (Réjane) Magloire, one of the group's members.

Later, Gordon was introduced to Madonna’s producer Mark Kamins, who showed him a demo of Madonna singing "Into the Groove." Kamins mentioned that Madonna wouldn’t be using the song on her upcoming album. Recognizing its hit potential, Gordon quickly flew to New York, signed Reggie to sing it, and had Kamins produce the track. Just before the release, however, the film Desperately Seeking Susan, starring Madonna, took the song and it became a global No. 1 hit sung by Madonna instead of Reggie.

Despite this, Reggie’s career soared when she joined Technotronic as the lead singer on their second album, Body to Body. She co-wrote several tracks, including "Move That Body," which became a top hit in the UK and placed her on Top of the Pops alongside Kylie Minogue. After her success with Technotronic, Reggie returned to her real name, Réjane, and began work on her solo album Forbidden Opera with Virgin Records, blending classical music and rap. The album was a global success, particularly in Asia, where the single "L’Amour" gained widespread acclaim. Her track "Impossible" was licensed as the team anthem for the New York Liberty in the WNBA. Réjane wrote all the songs on the album herself.

The Univestors Publishing music catalog spans from pop to techno, rap to classical. It includes productions such as Nathalie Gabay's hit "Mon Cœur qui Craque," Alexia Waku's "Maman," Caron's "Papa," Nell's "Game Over" and "Tu es Parti," among others. Gordon’s four-year collaboration with Henri Seroka led to songs featured in numerous films and classical concerts.

Gordon’s legacy is built upon collaborations with incredibly talented composers and musicians, including Jo Bogaert, Michel Hatziegeorgiou, Michel Seba, Renaud Lhoest, Henri Seroka, Fly Turker, Jennifer Robert, Nicolas Petit, Guy Waku, and of course, Reggie.

There are timeless hits, rhythms, and sounds, but the real magic lies in the relationships and human connections that bind them together, reflecting their shared passion for music.

So, get ready to take a trip back to the ‘80s and ‘90s and enjoy your favorite songs once again!
